Glock 17 Drum Mag - It's Magpul Week and Magpul is releasing new products every day this week. Two new 9mm drum magazines are being released today. Magpul MP5 Drum and Magpul Glock 17 Drum.

Just last month, Magpul released the CZ Scorpion PMAG D-50 EV9. Their PMAG D-50 GL9 has yet to be released. This is the AR-9 PCC Glock mag drum. Well now they are coming out with a full size Glock 17 drum magazine. All D-50 9mm drum magazines share the same parts. All Magpul had to do was change the turrets.

There are a few things to consider with the Magpul Glock 17 drum magazine. You may need to replace or upgrade the magnetic grip on your Glock. Magpul's Jon Canipe told us it's a simple fact that you're trying to hang 50 rds from a plastic mag handle and the weight of the drum doesn't help either. So if you have a Gen 3 Glock 17 with a high rev count, you should get a new replacement mag catch. If you have a Gen 4/5 Glock 17, you will need to upgrade to the metal clip.

The Glock 17 that John brought with him has a Magpul magazine attached. According to John, the new Glock 17 barrel should fit most mag wells. Not sure about the race rifle wells as they are very deep but we will see when it comes out.

Last week, Magpul teased the internet with this photo. There was a lot of speculation. We already have a handguard and grip unit from Magpul for the MP5. What else could it be? Some kind of MP5 magazine? That's all that makes sense. This was definitely the most exciting item that John Magpul brought to GunFest 2021. The Magpul MP5 Drum.

Like the Glock 17 barrel, the Magpul MP5 barrel shares the same parts. The only change is the mag turret to accommodate the MP5.

The Magpul MP5 drum mag looks like a miniature D-60 5.56 drum mag. Normal MP5 magazines are double stack, double feed like an AR-15 magazine. So the D-50 MP mag is a stack. Here is the problem. Building a Magpul MP5 drum is relatively easy. Their drum magazine design is simply a drum with one column feeding into the rifling. MP5 magazines are double stacked and double fed. Although similar, the CZ Scorpion was designed with a polymer magazine from the start. MP5 magazines are steel and very thin. There is very little room for multiple and double stack 9mm. John Kanip says that right now they are not making an MP5 magazine stick until they can make one that is 100% reliable and meets their standards. All MP5 polymer magazines on the market so far have been weak. Hopefully Magpul will be able to solve this tricky puzzle, but in the meantime, you can get your hands on their MP5 percussion magazine sometime in the second quarter of 2021. It will retail for $119.95 like the other 9mm percussion instruments.
